8:30 a.m. Juniors board the bus at Wardlaw-Hartridge
bringing a bag lunch and a drink (no glass).
9:30 Bus arrives at the public park in Griggstown. Students take notes from the historic plaques and maps along the canal and study the millstones and buildings.
10 a.m. Students launch the canoes and paddle one mile
upstream (SW) to the lock and write down observations about the movement of a
canoe (why can’t one person make it travel straight?).
Juniors listen to a brief lecture from a local historian and take notes from the historic plaque, write down observations about the design of the lock, and sketch the lock.
Water samples are taken from the canal and students walk to the Millstone River to collect more water samples and leaves.
Students have a canoe race.
Students canoe downstream (NE) on the canal past Griggstown.
1 p.m. Canoes are returned to the rental place. Everyone has lunch at the rental place.
Small group discussions about topics inspired by Walden.
2:10 p.m. Bus leaves Griggstown.
3 p.m. Bus arrives at Wardlaw-Hartridge.
